The rift is only open for a few seconds, so you’ll have to act quickly to land this attack. The trick to interrupting this attack is to have Freya shoot a runic arrow into the stomach, and then have Kratos follow up with the Leviathan Axe to trigger a frost explosion that will hurt the creature. Then, it will close the rift and spit the debris out in a red ringed attack you’ll need to evade. Nidhogg will occasionally open a rift to its stomach, sucking in all kind of debris around it. Once you’ve put the runes in place and frosted them with your axe, Nighogg will move back down to the ground so you can resume the fight in earnest. ![]() Here, you’ll want to use Freya’s runic arrows again, but this time she tells you to use your Leviathan Axe for frost damage. Nidhogg will eventually retreat to the left tree in an attempt to get away from you. Once the runes are in place, hit them with the chaos blades to light the tree on fire and bring Nidhogg down to the ground where you can resume attacking it. When Nidhogg climbs onto the right tree, you want to use Freya’s runic arrows to amplify the elemental damage of your chaos blades. ![]() This is a red ringed attack you’ll want to do your best to avoid. Nidhogg will also open small rifts and drive its tail through them, striking wherever you’re standing. If your timing is right, you can parry these projectiles. Nidhogg will also use its tail to shoot yellow ringed projectiles at you. When Nidhogg is in a tree, you can expect to see it shoot a beam from its tail that you can dodge under. If hit with Bifrost damage again, you’ll lose the full blue marker in health. When first struck, you’ll see a blue marker on your health bar. Be careful to avoid both of these attacks, as Bifrost damage can stack up quickly. Do not stand or run into this, or you’ll be damaged. Nidhogg will also slam its claws on the ground and coat the ground in Bifrost energy. Nidhogg will scrape its claw along the ground and toss a wave of Bifrost energy at you. Attack Nidhogg’s claws and head until it is stunned, at which point you’ll be prompted to use R3 and have Kratos pull it fully out of its rift. These yellow ringed attacks will break a normal block, so try to avoid standing with your block up. You’ll notice half of its body is still inside the rift it opened. Until they receive a certain arrow type, players should know they cannot do anything about them and move on.In this first stage, Nidhogg has a couple of attacks accompanied by a yellow ring and a couple of Bifrost attacks. Sometimes players will cross these brambles later in the game, but it should be noted that players will see these brambles before they can destroy them. Players will return to certain realms as part of God of War Ragnarok's story or while completing side quests, engaging in endgame content, and so on.
